Introducing Limelight Larry by Leigh Hodgkinson (Orchard, £10.99)

Larry is a proud and self-important peacock who is rather pleased that this author has penned an homage to him… until various other animals show up and start to clutter the pages! This is a funky and flamboyantly illustrated story with a humorous Lauren Child-like enjoyment of deconstructing the traditional picture book. But when Larry grabs the limelight, he realises it can get lonely and he invites all his animal friends to join him to share the party. A good life lesson on the joys of sharing.
