Adelaide by Tomi Ungerer (Phaidon, £8.95,)
When Adelaide is born with wings, her kangaroo parents are somewhat confused. Unlike the other little roos, she is fascinated by an aeroplane she sees in the sky, and using her strange wings, she flies off to discover far off lands. She finds herself in Paris and is cared for by the kind Monsieur Marius. She gets into all kinds of adventures and even falls in love with another kangaroo from the city zoo. A quirky but easy-to-follow story that has a charming Babar feel to it.
