Wanted: The Perfect Pet by Fiona Roberton (Hodder, £10.99)

Henry has 27 varieties of frog, but he really wants a dog, “because it is common knowledge that a dog is The Perfect Pet”. He advertises in the local paper and waits for the canine applicants to turn up.  A lonely duck spots the ad and wonders if he could win Henry over with a good dog disguise. At first, Henry is very excited, but soon the waddling “dog” is found out. Henry considers, and decides that ducks can do so many cool things, he’ll keep his feathered friend… and call him Spot.
