Eloise by Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight (Simon & Schuster, £6.99)

This book is just beautiful. Written in 1955, yet it feels thoroughly modern. I first found Eloise after I couldn’t get my first Clarice Bean book published. I was told that you couldn’t write picture books in the first person, but Eloise disproved that and gave me hope.
