Horrid Henry’s Christmas Play by Francesca Simon (Orion, £4.99)

Horrid Henry wants the starring role of Joseph in his school nativity play, so is appalled when it goes to his younger brother, Perfect Peter. Worse still, Henry only has one measly line in the role of the Innkeeper. There’s only one thing for it – to make his own part bigger, by any means necessary... This timely tale with lively illustrations by Tony Ross should strike a chord with  budding actors and parents of would-be drama divas alike.
