On Sudden Hill by Linda Sarah (Simon and Schuster, £6.99)

Birt and Etho are best friends who always take their cardboard boxes up Sudden Hill to play pirates, soldiers, astronauts or kings. But then one day their friendship is rocked by the arrival of a new boy Shu, who also wants to play on Sudden Hill. Can the three of them learn to play together or will one of them inevitably be left out?

Making new friends is something that everyone goes through, and it’s daunting no matter your age. But On Sudden Hill is a heartwarming story which shows how important it is to accept others and how wonderful it can be to get to know someone new. Illustrator Benji Davies’ sweet cartoon-like illustrations perfectly compliment Linda Sarah’s thought-provoking story, combining to create a beautiful picture book that will be treasured by readers of all ages.
