The What On Earth Wall Book of Science & Engineering by Christopher Lloyd and Andy Forshaw (What On Earth, £17.50)

Not strictly a traditional picture book, this is more of a poster/encyclopedia hybrid that stretches out to reveal an illustrated history of human innovation dating back to the stone ages.

While this may sound a little scientific to hold your child’s interest, the timeline’s lively illustrations (reminiscent of the more historical episodes of The Simpsons) keep things feeling fun and the little factoids are bite sized enough to be easily digested by young children.

While it may be aimed at a youthful audience, its fair to say this What on Earth wall book of Science and Engineering is an engrossing read at any age – since it landed at Junior HQ, we’ve been loitering by the wall,  picking up facts to redeem our reputation at the next company quiz night!
