The Trouble With Grandad by Babette Cole (£2.50, Egmont)

The fourth installment in Cole's 'The Trouble With...' series and this time it is the family's patriarch who is having a spot of difficulty. Like many men of a certain age, Grandad enjoys attending to his vegetable plot, but unlike his contemporaries this Grandad grows colossal fruit and veg, leading to much jealousy at the local plant show and an arrest for growing "a dangerous vegetable". A brilliantly surreal story with splashy watercolour visuals and enough silliness to tickle any young funny bone.
