Junior rounds up the best new children's books for August
If you haven’t heard of Barry Loser, then it’s high time that you did. This loveable scamp is the star of a bestselling children’s book series and a recipient of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. The fifth instalment of his adventures sees Barry and his friends embark on a summer caravan holiday in Plonkton, but it doesn’t quite turn out how Barry had envisaged as his best friend has betrayed him by falling in love! The horror!
Aimed at children six and over, Barry Loser and the Holiday of Doom is packed with fun and engaging cartoons and hilarious escapades. In a similar vein to Diary of a Wimpy Kid, it's riotously funny and utterly appealing. Author Jim Smith seems to have an innate talent for capturing the tone and dialogue of children and The Holiday of Doom will surely be another Barry Loser bestseller. Make sure you grab a copy before setting off on your hols.
