The Bippolo Seed And Other Lost Stories by Dr Seuss HarperCollins, £10.99, 3+
If your copies of Green Eggs And Ham and The Cat In The Hat are getting well worn, try these lesser-known short stories by the truly wonderful Dr Seuss, originally published in magazines in the Fifties and recently rediscovered. Told with that distinctive romping language of all Dr Seuss books, plus a healthy dose of nonsense, there are wise lessons to be learned from these fables of often weirdly named beings such as the Grickle, the Gritch and the Wild Wheef. Clever creatures, greedy animals and ambitious boys fill pages alongside the distinctively whimsical, colourful pictures. The rhymes are amazing.
