Topsy And Tim Start School by Jean and Gareth Adamson (Ladybird, £3.99)

There will be an air of nostalgia for parents reading Topsy And Tim with their children (the original books were published half a century ago. How old does that make you feel?!). Well, the raven-haired twins have been given amakeover, but you'll still recognise the reassuring tone and ambiance of the tale, as they get to grips with the minutae of the school routine from hanging up their coats on their peg and proceedures from registration to home time. As a sign that the twosome have really moved on with the times, there's also a new Topsy and Tim app for your iphone!
