Five fantastic art books
Inspire your budding artist with these brilliant books
Your child's early drawings will forever hold a special place in your heart – even if you find it hard to decipher what exactly those daubs of paint represent. But the delight she takes in her early artistic endeavours can wane due to a lack of confidence in her skills. Here are five books to help keep her inspired throughout childhood:
1. The Art Book For Children: Book One (Phaidon, £12.95). Inspiration comes in the form of classic works from real-life artists, from Leonardo's Mona Lisa to Andy Warhol's Marilyn. Children are then invited to look closely and make a personal response to the piece.
2. The Art Book For Children: Book Two by Amanda Renshaw (Phaidon, £12.95). Following on from Book One (see above), this is once again a fun way of introducing children to famous works by 30 different artists.
3. Doodle All Year: Four Seasons Of Endless Fun by Taro Gomi (Thames & Hudson, £9.99). This super book features the four seasons in all their colourful glory. Gomi provides a basic sketch and it's up to your child to expand upon the scene in any way he wishes.
4. Tell Me A Picture by Quentin Blake (Frances Lincoln, £10.99). Legendary illustrator Blake has chosen some of his favourite works and uses fun characters to invite the reader in to provide their own response to what they see and create stories around the pictures.
5. What Shall I Draw? by Ray Gibson (Usborne, £5.99). Provides step-by-step instructions to create fabulous works of art. Perfect for inspiring little fingers to pick up pen and get drawing.
